So a funny thing happened when I finished Sydney to Melbourne. In my semi-delirious state, I vaguely remember someone saying to me ‘well done, you’ve pre-qualified for PBP!’ which meant absolutely nothing to me.
Until I got a phone call asking if I would ride in 2019.
PBP (Paris-Brest-Paris), a 1200km cycling event that takes place once every four years, is run by Audax Club Parisien, the ‘parent organisation’ of Audax Australia.
Those wanting to ride PBP must qualify for the ride, and then register. But just like the road to PBP, the line to register is also long. So you can ‘jump the queue’ by pre-registering with a pre-qualification ride… which it turns out was Sydney-Melbourne.
So here’s my story of how I went from ‘I will never to that again… ever’ to somehow agreeing to represent Australia at PBP 2019.
